Economic indices are both a barometer of economic development and a compass for its direction, influencing changes in market supply and demand, government economic decision-making, financial capital investment, the trajectory of industrial development, corporate production activities, and even the rise and fall of enterprises.

On December 11, 2013, the Ready-Mixed Concrete Branch of the China Concrete and Cement Products Association commissioned the Beijing Institute of Intelligent Economy to compile and officially release the "China Concrete Composite Index," the "China Concrete Industry Risk Index," and the "China Concrete Price Index" — the first series of concrete industry indices in the country. The release conference was hosted by the Ready-Mixed Concrete Branch of the China Concrete and Cement Products Association and co-organized by the Beijing Foton Loxa Pump Machinery Branch. Attendees included Association President Xu Yongmo; Han Xianfu, Chairman of the Ready-Mixed Concrete Branch; Vice Chairmen Wu Wengui, Zhang Jingtao, and Wang Jianjun; Tan Hongguang, Chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Concrete Association; Gu Yanqing, President of the Jiangsu Provincial Building Steel Structure and Concrete Association; and Wang Guiling, Director of the Expert Committee of the Ready-Mixed Concrete Branch. The conference was one of the sub-sessions of the 2013 China Concrete and Cement Products Industry Conference.

President Xu Yongmo said that the concrete industry has gone through a stage of large-scale development, and its current development needs to be more refined and mature. It should not merely consider scale and output, but should support various aspects from the perspective of industrial economy, such as strategy, policy, regulations, and standards. In facing the market and investors, it is necessary to consider how to demonstrate the industry's position in economic operations. Therefore, economic operation indices are extremely important for an industry as large as concrete! The Ready-Mixed Concrete Branch showed foresight and accomplished something that was not easy to do! The "China Concrete Composite Index," the "China Concrete Industry Risk Index," and the "China Concrete Price Index" comprehensively, systematically, scientifically, dynamically, and accurately monitor and analyze the development, market prices, and risk conditions of China's concrete industry across 12 major categories — the world economy, international economy, Chinese economy, macro policy, industrial economy, cement industry, steel industry, capital construction, real estate, national concrete industry, regional concrete industry, and concrete industry risk — and provide risk warnings via radar displays and traffic-light signals, making the world economy, Chinese economy, and concrete industry development and market risks clear at a glance, and providing production and market guidance for domestic concrete enterprises.

According to the Q4 2013 reports on the "China Concrete Composite Index," the "China Concrete Industry Risk Index," and the "China Concrete Price Index," the China Concrete Composite Index for Q4 2013 was 0.6374, rated Grade D. The China Concrete Composite Index monitoring radar showed a red light, indicating a warning. Among them, the China Concrete Industry Index was 0.8024, rated Grade B, and the China Concrete Industry Risk Index monitoring radar showed a green light, indicating stability. The China Concrete Price Index was 0.8958, rated Grade B, and the China Concrete Price Index monitoring radar showed a green light, indicating stability.

The report analyzed that the development of China's concrete industry is currently generally stable. However, due to the relatively low levels of external related factors such as the world economy and the Chinese economy, the future development of China's concrete industry is not optimistic.

The report predicted that the China Concrete Composite Index for Q1 2014 would be 0.6368, rated Grade D, with the China Concrete Composite Index monitoring radar showing a red light, indicating a warning. For the same period, the China Concrete Industry Risk Index was predicted to be 0.8108, rated Grade B, with the China Concrete Industry Risk Index monitoring radar showing a green light, indicating stability. The China Concrete Price Index was predicted to be 0.9007, rated Grade A, with the China Concrete Price Index monitoring radar showing a blue light, indicating a positive outlook.
