　　The huge sinkhole at the scene is still collapsing

　　On the morning of December 12, a reporter from Sichuan News Network drove for more than two hours to the scene. Local police and government had set up a cordon around the sinkhole, and many villagers gathered, discussing the event.

　　The reporter saw that the sinkhole is located at the southwest corner of two households' houses, about 60 meters long, over 40 meters wide, and about 30 meters deep. All five rooms and six pens of villager Wang Jiashun's old house sank into the deep pit, which extended to the southwest corner of his newly built house, causing part of the new house to hang over the void. One of Wang Jiafu's old houses was also pulled down by the sinkhole, one side of the courtyard fell into the pit, and the remaining courtyard is covered with cracks.

　　Inside the sinkhole, a large tree over 10 meters tall has not yet fallen, and the wooden frames of the collapsed houses are still clearly visible.

　　Around the sinkhole, soil and rocks are still falling, and the area of the sinkhole is still expanding.

　　Villagers terrified in the middle of the night

　　"There have been slight underground tremors for more than 20 days. Each tremor is accompanied by a rumbling sound, and both my new and old houses have small cracks. When the sinkhole occurred, three people were at home. The noise was huge, and we were so scared that we rushed outside and stayed in the open air all night," villager Wang Jiashun told the reporter.

　　When Wang Jiashun returned home around 7 PM, the tremors were more frequent. He looked around with a flashlight, thought there was no big problem, and went back to the new house to eat and watch TV. During that time, there were multiple tremors, and he went out to check several times.

　　Around 12 AM, his mother and wife had gone to sleep. He went out to check again and noticed cracks in the courtyard of his second brother Wang Jiafu's house behind. He called the township government, waited for a while, and then went home to sleep. He felt something was wrong and lay in bed without sleeping.

　　At 0:40 AM, a loud noise suddenly came from the ground, and the house shook. Without time to put on shoes, he opened the window and saw smoke everywhere. His old house was sliding into the suddenly appeared sinkhole. He quickly called his wife, woke his mother, and ran towards the road. On the road, together with other frightened villagers, they spent the night in the open.

　　Work team attaches importance and handles promptly

　　After the accident, the Chaotian District Party Committee and District Government attached great importance and quickly set up a work team led by Executive Deputy District Chief Xu Xiao, with Deputy District Chiefs Li Shaobing, Du Lin, and Li Zhaonan as deputy leaders, and heads of the district land, public security, safety supervision, civil affairs, finance, Pingxi Township and other units as members, fully responsible for handling the incident.

　　The main leaders of the district party committee and government required: First, immediately carry out emergency response, take practical warning measures, establish a cordon, and implement 24-hour warning monitoring to prevent secondary disasters. Second, promptly relocate the masses to ensure the safety of people's lives and property; the district civil affairs department and local party committee and government should properly arrange the production and life of the relocated people. Third, quickly organize experts to investigate the cause in depth. The district land department should promptly contact experts from the Provincial Department of Land and Resources and the 604 Geological Exploration Brigade to conduct on-site surveys, make authoritative conclusions, formulate short-term and long-term treatment plans respectively, and provide safety assessment opinions. Fourth, the district land and safety supervision departments should quickly conduct a comprehensive inspection of geological hazard points, coal mines, and non-coal mines in the district to avoid geological and related disasters.

　　Currently, the relocated people have been properly resettled. Experts from the Provincial Department of Land and Resources and the 604 Geological Exploration Brigade have entered the site for survey, and the cause of the sinkhole is under investigation.
