The Nanping-Sanming-Longyan Railway starts in the north from the under-construction Hefei-Fuzhou Railway Nanping North Station, passes through Shaxian, Sanming, Yong'an, and Zhangping, and extends south to the Ganzhou-Longyan Railway Longyan Station. It has nine stations: Nanping North, Nanping West, Sanming North, Sanming South, Yong'an South, Shuangyang, Zhangping West, Yanshi South, and Longyan; the newly built main line is 246.55 kilometers long, with a designed operating speed of 200 kilometers per hour and an estimated investment of 25.3 billion yuan. The Nanping-Sanming-Longyan Railway is an important part of the national railway network and of Fujian Province's "three vertical, six horizontal, nine ring" railway network.

　　At present, the shortest train journey from Nanping to Longyan takes 6 hours and 51 minutes, and the longest takes 8 hours and 45 minutes. The Nanping-Sanming-Longyan Railway has a designed operating speed of 200 kilometers per hour. After completion, the journey from Nanping to Longyan will take less than 1.5 hours. At the same time, traveling from Nanping to Xiamen via the Nanping-Sanming-Longyan Railway and the Longyan-Xiamen Railway will take only about 2.5 hours, saving 6 hours compared with the current 8.5 hours.

　　A responsible person from the Provincial Development and Reform Commission introduced that Fujian has currently completed and opened the Wenzhou-Fuzhou, Fuzhou-Xiamen, Longyan-Xiamen, and Xiangtang-Putian railways, and the Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway is about to open. By the end of the year, the province's high-speed rail operating mileage will reach 1,150 kilometers, accounting for about one-tenth of the country's high-speed rail operating mileage, and eight prefecture-level cities will be connected by high-speed rail. With the construction of the Fuzhou-Pingtan and Nanping-Sanming-Longyan railways, all nine cities and one district will have high-speed rail projects. In 2017, a comprehensive high-speed rail loop network will be fully formed across Fujian's nine prefecture-level cities.
