On December 11, the Successful Entrepreneur Report Meeting, part of the 2013 College Student Science and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Culture Festival series at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology, was successfully held in Room 105 of the college building. The meeting specially invited Mr. Yang Chengjian, General Manager of Caterpillar (Xuzhou) Co., Ltd., as the keynote speaker. Zhang Huizhong, Party Secretary of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Qiang Yinghuai, Dean, Liu Haiming, Deputy Party Secretary, Shen Chengjin, Director of the Materials Engineering Research Institute, and Wang Yanqing, Deputy Director, attended the report. At 3:00 p.m., the lecture officially began. Mr. Yang Chengjian's report was titled "Talent Demand and Career Development from a Corporate Perspective." Citing cases throughout, he explained the topic in an engaging way, helping students understand corporate recruitment processes and enabling them to make positive adjustments and face employment with a calmer mindset and fuller preparation. What is an enterprise? What is career planning? What kind of talent do enterprises need? Mr. Yang's report centered closely on these three questions. First, he suggested that an enterprise can be simply summarized in three points: products, processes, and employees. He then explained career planning: "Today's career planning generally follows two paths——expert and leader. The question is which path suits you better and can make you stand out." After explaining the above two points, the topic everyone cared about most arrived: What kind of talent do enterprises need most? Mr. Yang offered six suggestions: learning ability, broad knowledge, bilingual communication, practical ability, a down-to-earth attitude, and correct values. After that, Mr. Yang used his own experience after graduating from university to tell the students how to enhance a person's value and thereby achieve success. Finally, the report concluded amid warm applause from the students. Employment is one of the issues of greatest concern and difficulty for contemporary college students. Mr. Yang Chengjian's lecture not only promptly answered the students' questions and resolved their doubts, but also helped them establish a correct outlook on employment and career choice. It is believed that the students of the School of Materials Science and Engineering will ride the long wind and break through the waves, and while consolidating their theoretical foundation, improve qualities in all aspects, actively participate in social practice, and go further and further on the road of future work.
