At a recent consultation meeting held by the Expert Committee of the China Machinery Industry Federation on the economic operation situation of the machinery industry in the third quarter, it was concluded that the operation quality of the machinery industry improved somewhat in the third quarter, and highlights of transformation and upgrading emerged from time to time. Experts unanimously agreed that the overall economic situation of the entire industry has begun to recover.

Among the 64 major products counted by the China Machinery Industry Federation this time, 38 products recorded year-on-year growth in the January-October period, accounting for 59.37% of all reported product varieties; 15 products grew at double-digit rates, accounting for 23.44% of all reported products; and 26 products saw their output decrease compared with last year, accounting for 40.63% of reported products.

  1. From January to October, the output of excavating and earthmoving machinery and excavators decreased by 0.06% and 6.34% year on year respectively, but the declines narrowed by 2.02 and 2.57 percentage points compared with the previous month. 2. The output of metal-cutting machine tools and metal-forming machine tools continued to decline, falling by 8.33% and 3.36% year on year respectively from January to October, among which the decline in metal-cutting machine tools narrowed by 1.03 percentage points compared with the previous month. Metal-cutting tools grew by 9.90% year on year, but the growth rate fell by 2.15 percentage points from the previous month.

  3. Among heavy mining products, metal smelting equipment, cranes and conveying machinery grew by 8.07%, 8.15% and 17.34% year on year respectively. However, special mining equipment and metal rolling equipment decreased by 5.67% and 4.85% year on year respectively, among which the decline in special mining equipment expanded slightly compared with the previous month.

  4. Power generation equipment production remained sluggish. From January to October, the output of power generation equipment was 104.2268 million kilowatts, down 2.31% year on year, among which steam turbine generators and wind turbine generator sets decreased by 4.53% and 0.92% year on year respectively; the year-on-year growth rate of hydro-turbine generator sets was flat compared with the previous month, at 1.94%. Gas turbines and hydropower turbines grew relatively fast, at 13.53% and 29.06% year on year respectively.

  5. From January to October, 19.3724 million automobiles were produced, up 17.23% year on year, showing a steady growth momentum and remaining above 15% for seven consecutive months.
