On December 10, after three years of arduous efforts by builders from the Fifth Company of China Railway First Group, the 18,208-meter-long Shilin Tunnel on the Yunnan-Guangxi Railway was successfully holed through, making it China's longest single-tube double-track railway tunnel.
The Shilin Tunnel "passes through two counties in one tube," with its entrance in Mile County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, and its exit in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, Kunming City. The tunnel was designed with an auxiliary construction mode consisting of a parallel heading plus two inclined shafts, with a cumulative excavation length of more than 40 kilometers and a cost of about 1.3 billion yuan. The Shilin Tunnel is also Asia's longest karst tunnel constructed by the drill-and-blast method, passing through six faults and four depressions and other areas densely covered with karst, with high geological risk sections totaling 7,810 meters, accounting for 43% of the total length of the main tunnel. The builders pioneered eight national patents for practical tunnel construction technologies, safely handled more than 300 karst cavities and caves, and holed through the tunnel half a year ahead of schedule, creating conditions for the construction of the entire line's subgrade, bridges, and culverts next year.Shantui National-Level Enterprise Technology Center Innovation Project Passes Acceptance Review
