As a steel producer, Sandvik has undergone tremendous changes in the 151 years since its founding and start of operations. Nevertheless, the company has consistently adhered to two unchanging guiding principles: first, continuously innovating and emphasizing localized solutions; second, a commitment to serving customers wholeheartedly.

From its modest beginnings in Sweden to its presence in more than 130 countries and regions today, Sandvik now has five major business areas: Sandvik Mining, Sandvik Machining, Sandvik Materials Technology, Sandvik Construction and Sandvik Venture.

“We have always challenged ourselves within the business areas in which we participate,” said Olof Faxander, President and CEO of Sandvik. “Linking advanced technology and R&D with customer needs has become the key to our company's success. We also possess strong adaptability, which has helped us remain invincible as the company continues to expand globally.”

This multinational enterprise, headquartered in Stockholm, now focuses primarily on growth and development in emerging markets, especially India and China. In China, Sandvik has a history of nearly 30 years, providing the Chinese market with high-quality products and advanced technology solutions.

“Mining and construction equipment are the top priorities of our overall business, especially after our cooperation with the large Chinese crushing and screening company Shanbao,” Faxander continued. “However, all business areas now present us with tremendous opportunities.”

“Another key factor behind the prosperity of Sandvik's global business is our localization of engineering and R&D, which brings our researchers closer to customers so that we can better meet their needs,” Faxander explained. “This has worked very well in China, so we can better tailor solutions for the Chinese market. At present, our China area manager is Chinese, and we expect more local talent to join the company's management in the future.”

Sandvik's customized products for the Chinese market include the new electric-driven blasthole drill rig——1175E. After establishing the Jiading plant, the company worked closely with local officials and mining officials to provide products specifically tailored to China's mining environment.

In addition, this Swedish group has also invested in China's nuclear market, signing a contract to supply high-performance tubing for nuclear reactors. “China is very eager to discover products of excellent quality,” Faxander said. “In fact, when we discuss with customers, price is certainly important, but quality always comes first.” “China will, as always, be an extremely important market for Sandvik's future growth,” he concluded. “Especially now, in areas such as mining, driven by industry consolidation and higher safety and quality requirements, we are able to deliver more value to customers.”
