Yesterday's heavy fog led to traffic control on multiple expressways in Sichuan. Reporters learned from the Sichuan Expressway Traffic Police that since early morning, visibility on expressways including Chengdu-Ya'an, Chengdu-Chongqing, Chengdu-Nanchong, and Chengdu-Zigong-Luzhou had dropped below 50 meters, with multiple toll stations implementing controls and vehicles queuing outside to wait for passage. It was not until noon that the most affected Chengdu-Leshan Expressway gradually resumed normal traffic.

Traffic police remind that today and tomorrow, heavy fog is still highly likely on expressways around Chengdu, and drivers should check real-time weather forecasts before traveling and slow down in foggy conditions.

Affected by persistent heavy fog in recent days, Chengdu's atmosphere has experienced continuous mild, moderate, and severe pollution. Around 11 p.m. last night, reporters learned from the Chengdu Environmental Protection Bureau that meteorological conditions unfavorable to pollutant dispersion will persist for the next three days. To alleviate air pollution, the Chengdu Atmospheric Comprehensive Remediation Command began at 22:00 on December 2 to take strong measures to respond to heavily polluted weather.

First, earthwork excavation, road resurfacing, landscaping planting, and building demolition are prohibited within the Ring Expressway; second, transport vehicles for bulk materials, muck, and construction waste, as well as large organic solvent tank trucks, are banned all day within the Ring Expressway (inclusive); third, key industries such as cement, steel, and chemicals shall implement temporary production cuts and emission restrictions of no less than 30%; fourth, open burning of all types of waste and crop straw is strictly prohibited; fifth, the ban on open-air barbecue is expanded to the main urban areas and key towns of nearby suburbs (counties); sixth, road cleaning and main road washing and dust removal in the central urban area shall be increased by at least one additional time; seventh, fireworks and firecrackers are prohibited within the Ring Expressway; eighth, when meteorological conditions permit, ground-based and aircraft artificial rain enhancement operations shall be carried out.
