On November 21—22, the First National “Three Basics” Technology Innovation Forum for Rail Transit Equipment Manufacturing was held in Changzhou, Jiangsu. Dozens of “academicians” from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, China Railway Corporation, and CSR-related research institutes gathered at the CSR Qishuyan Locomotive Research Institute to conduct in-depth discussion and exchange on the R&D achievements and future development directions of the “Three Basics” in China’s rail transit equipment field. CSR’s R&D achievements in the “Three Basics” of rail transit equipment manufacturing attracted much attention and high praise from the experts. The “Three Basics” refer to basic components, basic manufacturing processes, and basic materials.

The report of the “18th National Congress” and the “12th” Government Work Report pointed out that “remarkable results have been achieved in building an innovative China, and major breakthroughs have been made in manned spaceflight, the lunar exploration program, manned deep-sea diving, supercomputers, high-speed railways, and other areas,” fully affirming the achievements of China’s high-speed railway track equipment in the engineering application and operational effects of complete high-speed rail equipment. However, for rail transit equipment manufacturing to become a strong power, the prominent contradiction of insufficient independent supporting capacity in basic components, basic manufacturing processes, and basic materials relative to host equipment has become a bottleneck restricting the development of rail transit equipment toward the high-end and precision frontier.

Gan Yong, vice president and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that in order to create an environment conducive to the high-end development of the rail transit equipment industry and to enhance the overall level and international competitiveness of the rail transit equipment industry, it is necessary to strengthen “Three Basics” technology research and, by overcoming a number of key basic components and their related key materials and key processes, strengthen the high-end rail transit equipment manufacturing industry.
