桥体设计预计将邀请国际知名的跨海大桥建筑团队竞标，从桥体造型、设计图再到细节设计，预估2015年底完成，之后，将于2016年初开始动工。
依照评估，大桥建造完成后将串连起台湾西部滨海公路的台2线、台15线、台61线西滨快速公路及台64线八里新店快速公路，完工后淡水与八里间交通不须绕道关渡大桥，可缩短15公里的路程。
