The "State Key Laboratory of Building Safety and Environment" encompasses the China Academy of Building Research's key research directions in building safety fields such as structures, foundations, seismic resistance, fire protection, and wind resistance, as well as in building environment fields such as architectural acoustics, lighting, thermal performance, and energy efficiency. It will provide a sound testing and research platform for improving and enhancing China's building safety and building environment quality.
In 2007, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued the "Notice on Approving the First Batch of Enterprise State Key Laboratory Construction Applications" (Guo Ke Ban Ji Zi [2007] No. 50), approving 36 enterprises' applications for the construction of State Key Laboratories. The "State Key Laboratory of Building Safety and Environment" applied for by the China Academy of Building Research was among them, making it the academy's first State Key Laboratory. The comprehensive disaster prevention level and environmental quality of buildings are attracting increasing attention from society as a whole.
