Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Branch, China Civil Engineering Society

Haidian District, Beijing

The Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society is one of the academic organizations with the longest historical tradition and the broadest influence in the national geotechnical engineering field, and is the most important academic body for technical and academic exchange in the national geotechnical engineering community.

Company Introduction

In 1953, on the initiative of Mr. Mao Yisheng, the predecessor of this branch—the Soil Engineering Group of the Beijing Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society—was established in Beijing to carry out academic exchange activities in soil mechanics and foundation engineering. In 1957, to meet the needs of the development of the national economic construction situation, on the basis of the Soil Engineering Group of the Beijing Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society, a national academic committee of the China Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering was established. In 1978, with the progress of the reform of China's academic society system, it became a secondary society under the China Civil Engineering Society and was renamed the Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering Society of the China Civil Engineering Society. In 1999, to correspond with the name of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, it was renamed the Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society.
In 1957, the society contacted Professor Terzaghi, the founder of soil mechanics, and joined the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (abbreviated as ISSMFE; renamed the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, ISSMGE, in 1999), becoming one of the more than 50 member countries of the society and promoting international exchange activities in this discipline. According to the relevant provisions of ISSMGE, our society currently has 481 people representing China in ISSMGE as members of the society.
