On April 12, Zhanjiang Airport Expressway, a project under Guangdong Communications Group, announced that its first pile foundation has been successfully drilled, marking the project's official entry into the substantive construction phase.

The first drilled pile is located at the Provincial Road S544 Overpass. The project plans to take 60 days to complete the construction of all 135 pile foundations for the bridge.

The section where construction has begun is the advance construction section of Phase I. To accelerate project progress, the project obtained approval for the construction design of the first advance section of about 5 kilometers in March through a phased approval approach, providing the conditions for the project to enter the substantive construction phase.

Zhanjiang Airport Expressway has a total length of about 25 kilometers, adopts a dual-direction six-lane standard, and has a design speed of 120 kilometers per hour. The project is an expressway corridor connecting Zhanjiang's urban area to Zhanjiang Wuchuan Airport. It will further improve the collection and distribution network of Zhanjiang Wuchuan Airport and is of great significance for supporting Zhanjiang's high-quality development into a provincial sub-center city.

It is understood that the Wuchuan Branch Expressway, which connects with Zhanjiang Airport Expressway, will open to traffic by the end of June this year. In the future, it will join with Zhanjiang Airport Expressway to form a fast corridor linking multiple areas of Zhanjiang to the new airport.
