The first steel box girder of Jinwu Bridge was successfully slid into place on April 8. At the construction site, the reporter observed technicians further processing the successfully slid first steel box girder on one side, while workers were busy assembling the second steel box girder on the other.

　　The Jinwu Bridge reconstruction project is a key municipal project and an important hub connecting the Jiangnan urban area and the Duohu Central Business District over the Wuyi River. The project includes the main bridge of Jinwu Bridge, Dongyang Street Bridge, road works, drainage works, landscaping, lighting, traffic engineering, etc. The main bridge is a single-tower cable-stayed bridge, 265 meters long and 40 meters wide, with six lanes in both directions. The main tower is a steel structure in a parabolic shape.

　　Guo Jing, chief engineer of the Jinwu Bridge reconstruction project, introduced that the foundation and substructure of the main bridge have been fully completed, and the superstructure construction is being accelerated. Among them, the 100.5-meter cast-in-place concrete box girder is more than half completed, with 52.5 meters finished; the remaining 48 meters are scheduled to be poured by mid-May. There are still 19 segments of steel box girders remaining. The project department is optimizing the construction plan and scheme to complete the project as soon as possible.


　　"After the steel box girders are installed, we will use STC high-performance concrete for the bridge deck," Guo Jing said. Bridge decks poured with traditional materials are prone to fatigue cracking and require frequent repairs. STC concrete is an improved and strengthened ultra-high-performance concrete with better mechanical properties and durability, which can extend the service life of the bridge deck.


　　While construction is in full swing at the site, the main tower of the bridge has also started fabrication at a factory 260 kilometers away. It will be transported in segments to the construction site, where it will first be horizontally assembled, then vertically rotated to the specified angle, and the main tower installation will be completed in one go.

　　It is worth mentioning that the main tower is 82.121 meters high, and the vertical rotation part weighs 2,530 tons, which will set a national record for the heaviest vertical rotation of a main tower among similar bridges in China.

　　"To ensure nothing goes wrong, early in the design of the main tower, our technical team used BIM software for information modeling to simulate actual construction. In the early design stage, we could identify various problems that might occur in later construction and deal with them in advance. Now we also use this software for visual tracking management and quantitative analysis drills of the entire process," Guo Jing said. According to the plan, the vertical rotation of the main tower will be completed around the National Day holiday, which will also mean that the main structure construction of Jinwu Bridge is nearing completion. Subsequent procedures such as cable installation will follow, and the project is scheduled to open to traffic by the end of the year.
