记者在工地现场看到，各种机械设备林立，钢筋和混凝土构成了这里的主基调，已经可以看出整个东站大致的建设规划。据南宁东站项目部项目经理王俊杰介绍，东站的地下结构已经基本结束，面积达到7.56万平方米的无柱站台雨棚钢体结构已经基本搭建完毕。作为整个东站建筑支柱的28根钢柱也已经全部立起来。
